Your website, if done correctly, should be one of the strongest pieces of persuasive material that you have for your business. Here are four tips to ensure you don’t miss out on an opportunity to increase leads, conversions, and sales:
1. Make very clear what you do
If a visitor can’t see exactly what it is that you do within the first minute on your website, you’re basically asking them to hit the back button. You want visitors to know that they’ve landed in the right place.
What you do shouldn’t be a guessing game.
2. Explain how you’re different
A strong value proposition can help you ensure that visitors have a clear picture of what to expect from you. It helps to explain how you are different to others in your industry. It’s important that you identify what makes your product or service different, and make it known to visitors.
Visitors aren’t just looking for what you do, but how you do it differently than everyone else.
Here’s one way we’ve tried to demonstrate this on our homepage:
3. Prove authority and trustworthiness
When it comes to making a decision on whether or not to do business with you, visitors don’t want to feel a sense of trust. By including testimonials, case studies, and social proof on your website’s homepage can help you to convey a sense of credibility and trustworthiness.
Including a photo, where possible alongside a testimonial helps to improve believability. When a visitor sees that there is an actual person tied to the quote, it leads them to believe that what you’re putting forth isn’t just some faux-endorsement that you’ve created. We’ve added ours to our footer so they are on every page:
4. Ensure people know how to contact you
If a website visitor is seeking your contact information, it’s a great sign. But, If they’re having trouble easily locating it on your website’s homepage, they may get frustrated and turn their attention elsewhere. Ensure that your visitors don’t have to search far and wide when they’re ready to get a hold of you.
We’ve added ours to our footer as you can see in the image above. We also added all our social media connections at the very top of our homepage and included a contact us menu that sticks to the top of every page:
