But before you meet me, you have to meet Beanz, my show-stealing, tail-wagging office dog who took my heart in Llys-nini rescue 4 years ago (he’s a bit-of-a-mix for those asking).
I’m the invisible voice behind brilliant businesses. For over a decade, I’ve helped people get social media essentials, like, better engagement, more referrals and a even good night's sleep.

Instagram help has arrived

Learn how to reely grab attention
The ONLY 3 secrets you need to create a scroll stopping reel (and the best part? It’s free).
It’s time to mention my emails.
Need 30 fresh content ideas? Lost your reel templates?

My emails tell you handy tips, like, how to find your lost templates, what to post in the summer lull and META’s latest updates - all simplified into human speak.
(Beanz’ll give a tail-wagging welcome)
It’s very easy to look at a post that got fewer likes than usual and immediately think…
ㅤ
Well, that didn’t work then. 😂
ㅤ
And then perhaps stare at the insights for a bit longer, just in case another 47 likes appear out of nowhere.
ㅤ
But did it actually flop?
ㅤ
Because a post can be quietly doing a very good job without getting hundreds of likes.
ㅤ
It might get saved by exactly the right person. Someone might click through to your website, send you a DM or quietly start following along because something you said landed with them.
ㅤ
Or it might get 12 likes and one genuine enquiry from someone who is ready to work with you.
ㅤ
I’d take that over 1,200 views from people who scroll past, forget I exist and go back to watching videos of dogs doing questionable things.
ㅤ
👉The bit that matters is knowing what you wanted the post to do in the first place.
ㅤ
If I’m trying to reach new people, I’ll look at reach and views.
ㅤ
If I’ve shared something genuinely useful, I’m interested in saves and shares.
ㅤ
And if I’m talking about an offer, I’m much more interested in whether someone clicked, enquired or took the next step.
ㅤ
Because not every post has the same job.
ㅤ
So judging every post by how many likes it got doesn’t really tell you very much about whether your content is working.
ㅤ
Sometimes the post with 12 likes is quietly working much harder for your business than the one that got 120.
ㅤ
(Instagram is inconvenient like that.)
ㅤ
So next time you’re tempted to declare a post a flop five minutes after posting it, have a look at what it was actually supposed to achieve first.
ㅤ
Share below 👇 What’s the first number you usually look at when you check how a post has done?
There are already enough things to feel guilty about when you run a small business.
The email you still haven’t replied to. The admin you’ve been moving from one to-do list to another since approximately February. The fact you definitely *were* going to sort your expenses as you went along this year.
Your social media really doesn’t need to join the list 😂
You don’t have to post every day. You don’t need to turn everything into a Reel because apparently “Reels are what we’re all supposed to be doing”. And you definitely don’t need to jump on a trend you don’t understand, don’t particularly like and have spent 20 minutes trying to work out why everyone is pointing at the ceiling.
You also don’t need to keep Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, TikTok, YouTube and every other platform fed with content just so you can say you’re there.
That sounds less like a marketing strategy and more like acquiring six particularly demanding pets.
More isn’t automatically better.
I’d much rather see a business choose the platforms and content that actually make sense for their audience and their goals, while also being realistic about the time and energy they have available to do it properly.
Because there’s not much point creating the “perfect” content plan if it requires you to become a part-time content creator alongside running the actual business you’re supposed to be marketing.
Usually, a simpler plan you can keep going with will do far more for you than an ambitious one you abandon three weeks later when you’re thoroughly fed up with Instagram and considering throwing your phone into a hedge.
Social media should support your business, not become another full-time job you accidentally gave yourself.
So, what’s one social media thing you’ve stopped feeling like you “should” be doing?
It’s easy to get into the habit of thinking every Instagram idea needs to become a Reel, especially when we’re constantly being told that Reels are the format for reach.
ㅤ
(Instagram does have a remarkable ability to make a perfectly sensible business owner question every content decision they’ve ever made.)
ㅤ
But reach isn’t always what you need from a post.
ㅤ
Sometimes you want to explain something properly, which might work better as a carousel. Sometimes you want to start a conversation or share a quick update, where a Story or simple single post makes much more sense.
ㅤ
And sometimes, the best format is simply the one that gets the idea out of your head and onto Instagram in 10 minutes rather than turning it into an hour-long production involving B-roll, captions and finding an audio that doesn’t make you cringe 🙌
ㅤ
Before you start creating, ask yourself: "What do I actually want this post to do?"
ㅤ
Do you want it to reach new people? Build trust with the people already following you? Start a conversation? Explain something useful? Tell people about an offer?
ㅤ
Once you know the job of the post, choosing the format becomes much easier.
ㅤ
You’re not choosing a Reel because Reels are supposedly what Instagram “prefers”, or because someone has told you that you should be making more of them. You’re choosing the format that makes sense for that particular piece of content and what you want it to achieve.
ㅤ
This is actually what we’re looking at in this month’s Unleashed Content Club workshop: "Choose the Right Instagram Format".
ㅤ
We’ll look at Reels, carousels, single posts and Stories, what each format is useful for, and how to make a more strategic choice without accidentally creating yourself another job.
ㅤ
Because you already have one of those.
ㅤ
So next time you have an idea for Instagram, try starting with the goal rather than automatically opening the Reel editor.
ㅤ
Do you have a format you tend to default to?
I’m quite enjoying this trend.
ㅤ
Mostly because it makes the fairly ordinary parts of running a business sound much more glamorous than they usually feel.
ㅤ
For me, “kinda chic” looks like choosing a strategy I can actually maintain, writing content that sounds human and occasionally closing the laptop because Beanz has decided it is time for a walk.
ㅤ
Social media can support a business without becoming the main character in it.
ㅤ
Which one would you add?
August is underway… and the calendar is already looking full of good things.
There’s plenty happening on the work side, including onboarding some new one-to-one social media support projects, delivering a workshop on choosing the best social media platforms for your business, and running an Instagram workshop for the Unleashed Content Club.
Alongside that, there’s an 80th birthday celebration in the family, some beach fun and the usual behind-the-scenes work that never looks quite as exciting written in the diary.
Although, to be fair, even “catch up on emails” looks more impressive with a little animation.
Then, right at the end of the month, I’m heading off for a two-week holiday. So there will also be some packing, last-minute list writing and wondering whether I really need that many books (the answer is probably no, but they’re coming anyway).
A busy month, but one with a lovely mix of work, family time and things to look forward to.
I’m trying to leave enough room to enjoy what’s happening rather than rushing straight to the next thing.
Let’s see what August brings 💜
What are you looking forward to this August?
I’m not entirely sure how it happened, but July involved far more dressing up than I normally manage in a year.
Between awards evenings, anniversaries and networking events, my dresses have definitely earned their cost per wear this month.
Throw in a few sea swims, three social media workshops, flower arranging, bracelet making and plenty of lovely conversations, and it’s been a pretty memorable month.
Looking back, it’s been a nice reminder that running a business isn’t just about sitting behind a laptop. It’s comes with opportunities to meet brilliant people, celebrate successes and occasionally swap the laptop for something a little more creative.
Now… let’s see what August has in store. 💜
What was your highlight this month?
Every time a new social media platform starts getting attention, business owners are given another reason to wonder whether they’re falling behind.
ㅤ
Facebook. Instagram. LinkedIn. TikTok. Pinterest. YouTube. Threads.
ㅤ
The list keeps growing, but your available time usually doesn’t. 🥹
ㅤ
Before you add another platform, it helps to consider whether your audience is actually there, what you want the platform to achieve, the type of content it requires and whether you can realistically maintain it alongside the rest of your business.
ㅤ
A platform can be popular and full of potential without being the right place for you. The best choice is usually the one that supports your goals without making your marketing feel even more scattered.
ㅤ
The four-part test in this carousel is a useful place to start.
Found this helpful? Save it for the next time you’re tempted to add another platform.
ㅤ
And if you’d like to take a more strategic look at where your business should be showing up, join me on 12 August for my practical 90-minute workshop, Choosing the Right Social Media Platforms for Your Business.
ㅤ
We’ll look at your audience, goals, content style and available capacity, so you can leave with clearer direction and a more manageable approach to social media.

Last night was a really lovely celebration of 25 years of the @newforestbp at @thenici 💜
More than anything, it was a chance to see so many friends, familiar faces and business colleagues from across the New Forest, including people I’ve known since the very early days of Purple Dog.
There were plenty of “how has it been that long?” conversations, lots of catching up and a real sense of just how many relationships, businesses and shared experiences have grown through the Partnership over the years.
I’ve been delivering social media and marketing workshops for the Partnership for over a decade, and Matt was involved in its earlier days through his council role, so it felt especially nice to be there together and look back on how much has changed.
It was also quite lovely to swap workshops, laptops and everyday business life for dinner, good company and getting dressed up for once (a rare but welcome change).
Swipe through for a few photos from a lovely evening celebrating 25 years of the @NFBP 💜
Congratulations to everyone who has been part of the Partnership’s story ✨
This is your sign to stop caring about posting every single day.
Because consistency does not mean showing up constantly.
There is no prize for posting seven days a week, unless the prize is a slightly frantic caption written at 9.47pm with one hand and a glass of wine in the other.
A realistic rhythm will serve your business far better than forcing yourself to post simply because you think you should.
Three thoughtful posts a week can do more for your credibility than seven rushed posts that do not really say anything.
What matters is that your content helps the right people:
🐾 understand what you do
🐾 trust your expertise
🐾 remember your business
🐾 know what step to take next
You do not need to “win” at social media every day.
You need a plan you can maintain, including on the busy weeks when the wine is already poured and Canva is absolutely not being opened.
What posting schedule genuinely feels manageable to you?
You open Instagram for a quick look, and suddenly the same sound, format or conversation seems to be everywhere.
ㅤ
It can make you feel as though you need to join in quickly before the moment passes. Sometimes that`s worth doing. A relevant trend can introduce your business to new people and add a little personality to your content.
ㅤ
The difficulty starts when most of your content is decided that way. 😱
ㅤ
When you are always reacting, the customer questions, useful stories, business updates and offers you actually need to talk about can quietly get pushed aside. You may still be posting regularly, but the overall message starts to feel a little scattered.
ㅤ
Planned content gives that visibility somewhere useful to go. It helps people understand what you do, how you think and whether your business is relevant to them.
ㅤ
A steady strategy can still leave room for trends. It simply means they become part of the plan rather than the thing controlling it.
ㅤ
Take a look at your last few posts. Were they helping people understand your business, or were they mostly shaped by what was already happening on the platform? Tell me below what you`ve found 👇
